Friends of Dave #357: 🔪 millennials killed the guest room 🛏️
Sometimes you just need to take a breather.
Friends,
I don’t do this often, but this week I need to take a break from the intro.
Work, family, been battling an annoying chest cold that continues to linger, social commitments…..
You know how it is.
Sometimes you just need to take a breather.
As a result, to invoke a popular, arrogant BS phrase from modern corporate speak, this week I’ll give you some time back….which is me really saying I’m giving me some time back…..ironically a week before daylight savings time ends here in the US…..when we ALL get some time back…..
So I guess you could consider this short preamble like the pre-game to the end of daylight savings time….now I’m thinking I might need to do this every year…..
Just so you don’t think I completely slacked off, I added a couple extra links below for those of you who really don’t want the time back and just need something to read while you are in the bathroom, in the check out line, when your partner is sitting next to you on the couch watching something on TV you absolutely hate, or at some boring kid event.
Yes, to you in this group, I want you to know that your buddy Dave sees you. 😜
Back at it again next week.
XOXO
Dave
And now a few things to make you smarter…
Gas prices fluctuate from state to state due to factors such as local taxes, environmental regulations, reliance on local production or imports, and the proximity of refineries.
In this infographic, data from the American Automobile Association (AAA) to illustrates the cost of fueling a vehicle in each U.S. state.
Great quick one from Andy Raskin for you sellers and marketers. Relying on product claims without a narrative can be a reasonable approach if you’re selling a relatively straightforward, static product in a relatively uncrowded market, where the evaluation criteria are well understood and you’re resigned to battling it out in a feature war. But when things get complex, you need to be more strategic and model your story to fit the mindset of the buyer.
“Today, square footage is at such a premium, the idea of having a guest room feels like a luxury from the Gilded Age.”
With people working from home and space at all time premium, the guest room, a relic of the past, has followed the path of the “living room” and given way to home offices, glam rooms, sex rooms, and private recreational spaces. All thanks to those damn Millennials…..
As Robert Frost once said, at every fork in the road, choose the road less traveled. And if you do so, every now and then you are bound to end up on your state’s loneliest road. Check this out to see where these are are in your area.
Dinner has traditionally been the main event in the restaurant world. Everyone gets gussied up, chefs spend hours creating the evening’s menu, and servers score (hopefully) generous tips from wine-soaked customers. But in 2023, there’s been something of a shakeup in the traditional order: Restaurants that don’t serve dinner at all are stealing the spotlight from those that do.
