Friends of Dave #36: Milestones
Last long weekend of the summer Friends, let's make it a good one!
After last week's rant about Millennials and strollers, I'll try to keep it short this week. Not only am I exhausted, but you're not likely to read it. You've got places to go, people to see, and time to spend with the family. Go do it!
I would be extremely remiss, however, if I did not take a few sentences to mention two big milestones in our house this week: 1) my wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary this past Thursday, and 2) we are dropping off our oldest child at college this weekend. Hard to believe how quickly both of these came upon us.
The funny thing for me about any life milestone is that I catch myself devoting more time reflecting on it than I do celebrating. I might write about some of my more meaningful thoughts in the coming weeks (when everyone comes back up for air and I have a little more time). But to find someone that is crazy enough to put up with me and all of my quirks, idiosyncracies, noises, imperfections and faults for that length of time is simply mind blowing when I think about it. My wife is not perfect, but damn if that girl is not resilient. And to cap the week with the first drop off of one of our children at a college campus (something I touched on a bit at Father's Day) -- I've realized that I'm truly a lucky man.
You are lucky too. Don't wait for a milestone to count your blessings. If you haven't already, take a few moments this weekend to find them and appreciate them. Because you can blink and 20 years passes.
And after you do that, check out the articles I picked this week. I promise I'll try to find more about the smells that women like (and don't like), as you all seemed to like that one last week as much as the honest mediation I shared over 20 issues ago. No one said that the Friends of Dave weren't quirky as well....
Have a great long weekend everyone.
XOXO
Dave
