For many here in the US, it’s a three day weekend — combine that with the start of school winter breaks, and this is a time to be outside, for people to go places, and just recharge.
Not going to lie — I could use a break myself this week. The start to 2024 has been a busy one for me on a number of fronts.
So just sharing a few reminders in this short preamble:
Keep an open mind and reserve judgement as much as possible
Tell someone how much you appreciate them today
Always keep yourself grounded and see things from the proper perspective
Remember, no matter how much you think otherwise….it is almost never about you
Boosting people’s self esteem helps them achieve exponentially more
On the flip side, shame is undefeated as a demotivator
Do not apologize for taking every advantage to advocate for yourself
Winning teams all place a high value on these things:
Urgency
Accountability
Communication
Empathy
There is a big difference between being a nice person and a kind person — choose to be kind
Have a good one, Friends!
XOXO
Dave
And now a few things to make you smarter…
In 2023, 34% of the 131 million households in the U.S. lived in rented homes.
But which U.S. cities are the least affordable to rent in? With runaway housing prices and local salaries struggling to keep up, some of America’s largest metros feel quite unaffordable.
To answer the question more concretely, CashNetUSA found rental price data (as of August 2023) from Zillow.com and compared it to city salary data to calculate the percentage of properties available to rent for 30% or less of the local average income.
While some people might think that monthly homeownership costs will be cheaper in the long-run compared with renting, that’s increasingly untrue in most real estate markets.
From beds for Roman newlyweds, to "hangover" benches for 19th-Century workers: the pursuit of a good night's sleep has followed us through the ages.
Once you recognize it’s impossible to care about everything you want to care about, you can shift your perspective to focus on what is possible.
Dollar store backlash is happening all over the country. The stores are routinely blamed for gouging consumers, making it harder for stores selling healthier food to open nearby, and failing hundreds of government safety inspections, making the stores so unsafe even shareholders are concerned. Â
To fight back, some ~60 communities have attempted to restrict their growth by limiting their locations or banning them outright.
