Friends,
It’s the official start of summer this week in the US — Memorial Day weekend.
I know it is usually three days marked by outdoor activities, barbecues and get togethers, but here is my annual reminder to NOT wish others, especially veterans, a “Happy Memorial Day!”.
If you need to understand, click here to read why.
Three day weekends tend to be kinda quiet for the FoD and the preamble, so I’m going to take a break from the soapbox this week.
Plenty of really good things for you to click on and read below though.
Fear not: the promise that you will be rewarded for clicking on this newsletter by being entertained or learning something new endures.
Until next week…..here’s to good weather, good times and tasty burgers.
XOXO
Dave

The Velcro Companies take pains to remind the public that Velcro is not an actual product but instead a company name—a company that makes far more than the hook-and-loop fastener so closely associated with it.
If you like to eat hot dogs, this is the one you read this week.
They will not be shushed — here are six stories of librarians who have fostered cultural movements, protected national secrets, and fought criminals.
“Your home is wherever your wheels come to a stop,” wrote Byam in Fifth Avenue on Wheels, a 1953 road-trip guide that emphasized the Manhattan-worthy luxury that Airstream offered.
Today, as remote work makes domestic travel more accessible than ever, the Airstream represents the future that Wally Byam, inventor of the Airstream trailer predicted. The comforts of the 21st century are new, but the draw of the road has not diminished.
I asked other people, ‘Is this just me or has he changed? It was his watch and he wanted to do it his way. I understand that. I would have liked him to trust me. I was always a very loyal subject to him.”
This one was a fascinating read — you don’t have to be a Yankee fan or baseball fan to appreciate it, but being familiar with the the personalities involved makes it more interesting. Speaks about trust, egos, leadership and the importance of alignment — lessons here for anyone.
