One month down in 2025….
Let’s see….quick check of the scorecard here in the United States for the last 31 days:
✅ New Orleans terrorist truck attack on New Years Eve/Day
✅ Tesla Cybertruck explodes outside of a hotel in Las Vegas
✅ Massive fire in Los Angeles
✅ Another school shooting, this time in Nashville
✅ Snow and freezing temperatures across the Southeast
✅ Earthquake off of the coast of NH/Maine (which, btw, I felt in my house!)
✅ F-35 fighter jet crashes in Alaska
✅ First commercial plane crash in the United States since 2009
✅ Private jet crashes in the Philadelphia area on January 31
And, yes, we also had a Presidential inauguration and a “peaceful” transfer of power…..
Everyone having fun yet????
Whether you believe it is all just freaky coincidence, some nefarious plot against America or somewhere in between, I guess we will find out what else 2025 has in store for us soon enough….
This all is just a reminder that, no matter how much we like to think that we have things figured out and under control, we really don’t.
Friends, we are all just along for The Ride.
And we all know that The Ride can sometimes be fun and even exciting. We also know it can also be bumpy and even chaotic.
So while we can, and should, be proactive, informed, prepared for the ups and the downs and doing our best to try to influence the outcomes we desire, we need to accept that it isn’t always possible.
At any given time, no matter how hard we try, most of us can’t say for certain what is going to happen next.
That’s why we have to remind ourselves to do our best to just roll with what is in front of us at a given moment. Not to get too high. Not to get too low. Don’t react to every peak, jolt or aftershock. Don’t get caught up in unnecessary 🐂 💩.
And certainly don’t get complacent.
I guess what I am saying (and frankly, reminding myself), Friends, is there is something to be said about being comfortable just being present in the moment and at peace with our circumstances.
It can be scary feeling like you or things around you are out of your control.
And believe me, like I said a few weeks ago, something tells me more unsettling things are coming for our collective scorecards.
But if you can embrace that you are not in complete control (and NEVER CAN NOR WILL BE), and that, despite that fact, you will still be okay, there is definitely something comforting in that. And, funny enough, doing this makes you feel like you are back in some sort of control…
Try it. See how it goes.
And if that somehow fails, here is another random thing to try: watch the super entertaining documentary on Yacht Rock on HBO Max. If a little Michael McDonald, Steely Dan and Christopher Cross doesn’t calm and soothe you with some good vibes, I don’t know what will (much thanks to my brother in-law, who is also an FoD, for the suggestion)….an hour and a half well spent...⛵️🍹
As I said a few weeks ago, buckle up. We are one month down.
XOXO
Dave
And now a few things to make you smarter…
This graphic ranks the 20 tallest countries in the world, by average height. Data comes from NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, compiled by Business Insider.
Important to note, these rankings are based on average person height (men and women combined). For context, the global average height of a human is 5 feet 4 inches.

Cars used to sport hood ornaments as a disguise for ugly radiator caps more than a century ago. Today, only a few high-end manufacturers still offer these gorgeous hood jewelry, like Rolls-Royce and Bentley. What happened to these mobile works of art?
The everything bagel is the king of bagels. On this there should be no argument. There are, however, arguments about who invented the everything bagel. Here’s everything you need to know.
The world may seem like a crazy place right now, but, if you love music, there is something about going into a record store that can make everything all right. Here are some places to put on your list to visit as you travel (particularly to Europe) this year.
