Opened up and Dancing AgainIt's a three day weekend for most of you, so I'll try to make the preamble short and sweet so you can get on with your 4th of July celebrations. But first, a quick story.....I took my 10 year old son to Fenway Park this past Wednesday night to see a baseball game. I don't think we had been to a live sporting event in a stadium in over a year and a half. The beginning of the week was oppressively hot here and the forecast that night was for scattered showers and thunderstorms. But that did not deter us.We arrived at the ballpark about an hour before the scheduled first pitch, finding a typical crowd for a midweek, non-marquis match up game. Somewhere between half full and a sellout. After a few innings, the predicted thunderstorms were upon us. But the game played on, the crowd continued to cheer and would occasionally chant in unison "Yankees suck!" (even though they were playing Kansas City that night) and there was beer and soda, hot dogs and pretzels. Aside from the appearance of some stadium personnel wearing face coverings, this could have taken place at any time in the past. Then, around 10pm, the rain had soaked the field to the point that required a rain delay. The field was covered, and at that point most of the crowd decided to call it a night. But many (like us) stayed to wait it out -- finishing their beer and their ice cream and watching Mother Nature cleanse and cool the historic venue for America's pastime with water from the heavens. Music from all eras blasted from the speakers throughout the stadium to keep young and old entertained during the break. As I looked around the park waiting for the game to restart, it struck me -- people were laughing, singing along and dancing. They danced, soaking wet, in the rain, to new hits and classics where ever they happened to be. There was no social distancing, no masks, no awkwardness. Just people having fun and happy to finally be out.The game soon resumed, and my son and I sang "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the 7th inning stretch and "Sweet Caroline" during the 8th inning and when the Sox finally won the game, they played "Dirty Water."And then, shortly after midnight, it was time to head to exits. Side by side, the bleary eyed, water logged die hards filed out of the park, chanting in unison "Yankees suck!" as they went their separate ways into the early morning darkness. Finally things are getting back to normal....I hope you are able to enjoy a close to normal 4th of July weekend. We deserve it my Friends. Have a safe and happy one!XOXODave
